The new Google satellite maps that cover much of the world are pretty cool – as others have discovered.
Unfortunately though, the really high resolution ones have pretty patchy coverage over New Zealand as yet. These get down to sufficient detail that you can see the cars parked in the driveways of houses. But the only place they seem to cover in detail are parts of Auckland… and Marlborough.
So naturally I thought I should take a look at New Zealand’s biggest spy base (and Echelon participant, as described in Nicky Hager’s very interesting book), the GCSB run Waihopai base. Not that it’s any great secret I suppose – there’s rather a nice photo on the GCSB site here.
I’m looking forward to getting such detailed coverage of the rest of the country.
