venus fly trapThere’s something inherently interesting, it would seem, about females engaged in ninja style moves.

I’m thinking Buffy. I’m thinking Uma Thurman (Mr Tarantino knows this.) I’m thinking Michelle Yeoh. Actually, maybe I’m not thinking. But you get the picture. Fellow Wellingtonista and film-buff Llew probably has a top fifty female cinema ninjas (and if not, I bet he will shortly).

And that cartoon character from Aeon Flux. Remember her? Iconic 90’s MTV cartoon; mysterious and oh so painfully cool. I used to religiously video it from the LiquidTV cartoon segments that would get played on TV occasionally here. That and Speedbump, the Roadkill Possum, of course.

And now, soon to be a live-action movie with Charlize Theron. Not to mention Dr Lionel Leonard Rossi-Dodds. (Gratuitous Kiwi connection, again.)

It looks like the perfect post-Matrix thing. Incredibly stylish, who cares if the story is crap. I see from the “Making of…” featurette that they do the classic “catch a fly with her eyelashes” thing for real, although Dave is right in thinking that it just doesn’t quite work.

I might as well start planning now to attend. That way, it might actually happen.
