in the air

Spring is in the air. I can tell this because the car is becoming encrusted with yellow pine pollen, and I come to the realisation that I don’t have a cold, and that a running nose, sneezing, sore throat and general crankiness are all down to allergies, not a virus.

Among the unfortunate inheritances B₂ (and probably R₂ too, although it’s not obvious yet) has from me is a collection of minor seasonal allergies (and a complimentary set from her mother too). So we are both on the Claratyne now. In September! Usually I can hold out until November.

On the more positive side of things I found a bag of Desiree potatoes under the sink that was starting to sprout. I’ve put them in a safe place outside to green up, and over the next few weeks I’ll get our garden ready to receive them. Just as this time last year, the target is to have some beautiful new potatoes for Christmas. I’m dreaming of it even now, a bright Christmas, heat, Pohutukawas in full flower…
